Bumbles v. Nearly All Black/Morrisons 19-17

On a crisp clear afternoon following the Remembrance Day Parade in Bingley a huge crowd including local MPs and Councillors assembled at the Hive to see a strong Bumbles side take on some new and old rivals.

There was a party atmosphere amongst the spectators and players as the teams played some end to end rugby with narrow wins in both games.

A fun touch rugby game involving a mixed Bees Hockey side and the Bumblettes added a humorous finishing touch to the afternoon.

The day was organised by Bumbles Coach Simon Myers who said after the event, “none of this could have happened without the help of everyone who gave up their time to support Help for Heroes,and the Royal British Legion here today. I would like to thank every single person who attended and assisted. It’s been an incrdible day”.

Mo Parker, the Nearly All Blacks and Morrisons Team organiser submitted the following report name checking all of his players many of them giving up lucrative ‘double time’ shifts to partcipate.

This game was won by the Bumbles long before the kick off due to Bumbles manager Mark Goodwin pulling yet more stunts to upset the Almosts flowing rhythm by enlisting hard running, try scoring prop Nick Leadbeater as referee and for a previous game having Almosts speedy stand off Mo Parker referee that-sapping his stamina and then having to be benched to recuperate.

The match started badly for the Almosts with stand in stand off Nathan Benton(Morley and Yorkshire) failing to kick the ball a whole ten metres-which brought a chuckle from dad Warren on the touch line. From then on the Almosts changed up a gear(into first) and started to show the free flowing rugby they are famous for with the Queenbury centre contingent of Mark and Andy starting to click and Mark unselfishly sending Andy in for a try with the line beckoning for him.

The Exleys were in the thick of things with dad Paul showing his (lack of) pace at both second row and centre and not receiving a card of any colour-now theres a first.

The boys from Morrisons Guiseley all tried hard but the pick of the bunch was full back Ginger Johnny playing despite having half a moustache,his colleagues Luke,Mikey,Big Danny and Matty playing in unusual positions-on the field…not in the bar.

Experienced scrum half Andy Withers (the doc) was singled out by Bumbles Manager Goodwin as a player whom roughed up some of his lads, I can only imagine he was touting for business.

Matthew Warden was the pick of the family-both dad David(so called pulled muscle) and brother Jason (missus having baby) not turning up.Stand in Reece borrowed from Salem more than compensated for them.

Alternating props Brookie and Darren Lee-alternating between the pitch and the bar had Ian Smith running hard-to keep them supplied with beer.

Captain Gary Scott was heard to say to his son after the match-it was a game of two halves with a little break in the middle.His mate Chinny-dont know why hes called Chinny as he has a beard and you cant see his chin missed a kick under the posts which would have levelled the scores-but the lads do not hold it against him…….much!

A good time was had by all and I am pleased to say I have been asked when the next fixture is.
